Live Oak Café began as a dream that brought husband and wife team, Sean Mundy and Jennifer Charron, to the beautiful town of Southport. Once the perfect property was found, renovations began. The site, a turn-of-the-century home on Southport’s historic Howe Street, required extensive renovations to become worthy of their dream. The original hard wood floors were revealed and refinished. The dropped ceilings were removed and bead board ceilings were installed. And most importantly, the kitchen was installed. Seven months later, Live Oak Café opened on July 25th, 2001.
The result is a quaint restaurant with three small dining rooms painted in the bold colors of mustard, juniper, and roasted red pepper, a screened porch with custom tables that are truly works of art, and a wine garden for relaxing with your favorite beverage before or after diner. Each dining room is decorated with antiques including English pub tables and chairs. The foyer has antique settees and a marble top table. The ambiance takes you back to a simpler time and allows the diner to relax, socialize, and enjoy the excellent cuisine.
Chef Sean Mundy prepares each entrée with fresh ingredients. He adds his creativity to each dish and the result is pleasing to the eye, to the nose, and especially to the pallet. The menu is updated seasonally to keep it interesting. Specials are also offered allowing Sean to present more of a variety of fresh and seasonal items. Among the favorites of those who frequent the restaurant are the Atlantic Coast Blue Crab Dip, the Alligator Bites, the Grilled Rib Eye with balsamic caramelized sweet onions and thyme horseradish cream drizzle, and the delectable Shrimp Pasta that was praised in a Wilmington Star Review.
Live Oak Café also boasts a team of excellent servers who greet you at the door and ensure your dining experience is all that you expect. The servers are very knowledgeable about the extensive wine list and are able to suggest wonderful pairings with your favorite foods. Premium spirits are also offered for your favorite cocktail.
